Lassiter was drafted Overall Number One Pick in the 2009 PBL Draft but did not suit-up as the PBL ceased operations.

Marcio Lassiter was so feared by some rival Asian teams that they tried underhanded tactics to have Lassiter disqualified from playing for Smart Gilas. Lebanon in particular protested Marcio and also Chris Lutz to be disqualified as per FIBA HAGOP rule. Marcio and Lutz were later cleared to play as they are natural born Filipinos.
