NCAA Basketball Championships Record History and MVPs

The (NCAA) National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) inaugurated in 1924 (briefly halted in 1942-1946) as an annual collegiate basketball competition.
NCAA basketball teams annually compete every academic year from June to October.
San Beda is the winningest NCAA college squad with a dominant 21 Seniors Championship titles. Colegio de San Juan de Letran follows with 17, former member Ateneo de Manila University with 14 and San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 12.
San Sebastian College-Recoletos and San Beda College hold the most Championship streaks at 5 for Seniors basketball with the former from 1993-1994 to 1997-1998 and the latter with academic years 2010-2011 to 2014-2015.
In 2015 NCAA Season 91, Letran upset San Beda and prevented the Red Lions from achieving their sixth-straight championship in the NCAA. Letran also made a history by winning a title after a ten-year drought.
NCAA adapted the Final Four format in year 1998.
San Beda College presently remains as the only founding member left in the NCAA. Former founding members Ateneo de Manila, De La Salle, Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines, National University, University of Manila and University of Santo Tomas all left for other college tournaments.
In 1925, UP Manila was crowned as NCAA basketball champion, 14 years before the US NCAA basketball had one.
NCAA Players who won the MVP twice include stars Moro Lorenzo, Caloy Loyzaga, Samboy Lim, Alvin Patrimonio, Eugene Quilban, Rommel Adducul, Sam Ekwe and Allwell Oraeme
Allwell Oraeme (2015), Gabby Espinas (2004) and Sam Ekwe (2006) both won the NCAA MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in their respective freshman year.
Lim Eng Beng scored 55 points in 1974 finals for former NCAA team De La Salle University. Lim Eng Beng also averaged a whopping 32 markers a game in the 1974 season.
