• Trivia:
In 1997, talks of Abarrientos’ potential participation in the NBA came, when Charlotte Hornets scout Joe Bettancourt offered Abarrientos a contract to participate in the Hornets’ pre-season camp. Abarrientos, though, declined the offer to concentrate on his pro career in the PBA. In 1997 Abarrientos averaged a career high 16.7 Points and a league leading 8.6 Assists Per Game.
• His Memorable Quote:
• “Patibayan na lang ng loob iyon. Kung sino ang mas matibay ang dibdib at may hangin sa huli, iyon na ang mananalo.” “Sabi ko, mamamatay na ako sa loob pero hindi ako patatalo.”
• What others said:
“Johnny always would do something in some games and I say, Wow! I have never seen that before.” Tim Cone on his history with Abarrientos

Johnny Abarrientos will forever be remembered as that ‘little man’ who set the bar over the land of giants during the 90’s in the international and local basketball scene. Johnny made himself a household name in the PBA in his prime. Abarrientos mesmerized the Filipinos everytime he manned the point for RP Team in the Asian games. He was also one of the few pure ball-handlers to ever terrorize the Asian tournaments. Not only a cerebral player, he was also one of the slickest and quickest pointguard in Asia.
