PBA 2016 News: Barangay Ginebra San Miguel edged Meralco Bolts, 91-88, to bag the PBA Governor’s Cup 2016 championship title on Wednesday in Araneta Coliseum Quezon City. Helping Ginebra end their eight-year title drought was import Justin Brownlee, courtesy of a dagger clutch trey with 5.5 seconds left.

Nakamit ulit ng Ginebra ang kampeonato matapos ang walong taon. Pumailanlang para sa Ginebra ang import na si Justin Brownlee, gamit ang pamatay na tres may 5.5 segundo ang natitira sa laban. Nagtapos si Brownlee sa kanyang 31 puntos, 9 rebounds, 4 na pasa at 2 agaw.
Ginebra clinches PBA Governors 2016 championship
Brownlee drained the buzzer-beating trey opposite import Allen Durham, who guarded him one-on-one. Durham tried in vain to block the shot but to no avail. It was also Durham who missed the go-to layup that gave Ginebra the winning possession.
Brownlee finished with 31 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Ginebra bucked a 13-point halftime deficit from a resilient Meralco side. It was Ginebra’s 9th championship trophy overall, while it was coach Tim Cone‘s 19th title haul.
LA “El Tinyente” Tenorio accounted for himself with 25 points, his major contributions playing a big-part in the third quarter run which saw the Gin Kings turning the game to a close-battle.
Chris Newsome paced the losing side with 19 baskets, seven caroms, three dishes and one steal.
