Gilas Pilipinas ended-up 7th place by gobbling-up huge Mongolia, 84-68, in Incheon South Korea Asian Games 2014. Unstoppable veteran Ranidel “RDO” Ocampo lifted the Philippine Basketball team with 25 monster points and 5 boards. Three Gilas Pilipinas standouts dropped 11 points courtesy of Junmar “The Kraken” Fajardo, Gabe “Mr. President” Norwood and LA “El Tinyente” Tenorio. Fajardo also collared 12 big caroms.

President” Norwood at LA “El Tinyente” Tenorio. Nagbigay din si Fajardo ng 12 rebounds.

Pilipinas Basketball dominated the paint with 48 to 22 inside points of Mongolia. The Filipino Five also fared well in second chance points at 19 versus 7. RP Five made 6 of 20 threepoint shots and 33 of 70 field goal clip. Gilas also slayed the Mongolians with 47 compared to 36 rebounds. Mongolia gave-up a lot of fouls with 19 to 16 resulting to 12 of 18 freethrows for the Filipinos.

Bilguun Battuvshin led Mongolia with 18 markers but fouled out together with Sedbazar Shinen who scored 11. Mongolia, a relative rookie in the international scene, showed inexperience by making only 7 assists compared to Philippines 16.

Despite the big victory, Pilipinas will be placed 7th without a medal in the perennial Asian Games. A worst finish to many critics, but a worst time for the embattled Gilas which lost Andray Blatche and Jayson Castro before the games commenced. The Pinoys will have to prepare and move forward to the upcoming FIBA Asia Championships.
