Philippine Collegiate Champions League PCCL Record History
The Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) is the premier national collegiate basketball champions tournament of the Philippines. PCCL features champion teams from various collegiate leagues in the nation with both the NCAA and UAAP given 4 outright team entries, 1 for CESAFI and with other colleges fighting for the total of 16.
PCCL was once known as CCL.
PCCL is formatted just like the US NCAA Division I, as more or less 250 college basketball teams slug it out from nine various regions nationwide to qualify for the 16 final teams.
UAAP teams coveted the majority of PCCL titles with 9, with the NCAA winning one. Curiously, no PCCL Finals featured a match between champion teams from UAAP and NCAA. CESAFI twice fought in the PCCL Finals but never won the title.
Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University copped the PCCL championships thrice, with De La Salle University, San Beda, FEU and UE winning the PCCL crown two times.
In 2014 PCCL season, San Beda College Red Lions became the 2nd team in the NCAA to win the coveted PCCL crown opposite UAAP powerhouse De La Salle University. San Sebastian Stags stole the limelight in 2011 PCCL and became the first NCAA team to bag the national collegiate championship.
°CC - In 2015 PCCL season, San Beda College Red Lions and Far Eastern University were declared Co-Champions due to the Final series being postponed in lieu of typhoon Melor. Letran and University of San Carlos were both declared as runner-ups
The 2016-2017 PCCL season was not staged with PCCL head Joe Lipa unsuccessful in getting network coverage from ABS-CBN Sports.
