Philippine Basketball Team Olympic Record History

°  Philippine Basketball Team Olympic Record History

°  In 1936, the Philippine Basketball Team known back then as the "Islanders", placed 5th (Fifth) in the Olympic Men's Basketball. That achievement still stands as the highest place achieved by any Asian nation in the Olympic Basketball history. It must be noted that the Islanders only lost one game (against the United States), but was surprisingly relegated to 5th due to the system implemented. The Filipino dribblers were mentored by Dionisio Calvo and Ambrosio Padilla. RP squad was also a pioneer of sorts, as one of the first countries to play in the inaugural Olympic Basketball.
°  In year 1948, the Philippines made another record as the first basketball team in history to score 100 or more in a single game against hapless Iraq 102-30. RP Team dropped to 12th Place at the end of the Olympic Basketball competitions.
°  Philippines ended with a 3-2 slate in 1952 Olympics and placed 9th overall. The Filipinos finished 7th with identical 4-4 record in 1956.
°  In 1960, Caloy Loyzaga "The Big Difference" did not suit-up for the Nationals due to injury, and the Pinoys wounded-up at 11th. In 1968 and 1972 Manila Olympics, Philippines placed in identical 13th.
°  FIBA suspended the Philippines in 1964 and nullified the nation's chance to play in the Olympics. RP Team was the reigning Asian Champions in FIBA during that time.
°  Jun Papa, Danny Florencio and Robert Jaworski topscored for the Philippine Five in 1968 Olympics with 15.0, 11.2 and 10.7 average Points per game in sequence.
