The battle of struggling UAAP top teams ended well for the Bo Perasol coached Blue Eagles, which needed the second overtime to overcome a resilient Bulldogs squad.
Ravena had an off-night for the most part of the game but stepped-up in clutch time to salvage Ateneo from another disaster. Kiefer managed to put-up a dismal 7 of 26 fieldgoal clip, but his dagger trey in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter tied the ballgame 57-All. Ravena steered the Blue Eagles once again with 5.7 seconds remaining in extra time. Kiefer’s fearless drive to the basket paved the way for a second overtime.
ADMU languished in fieldgoal percentage with a worse 30% clip, and ended-up with a forgettable 2 of 28 threepoint shooting total. However, resiliency made it up for the struggling Ateneans as they outscored the Bulldogs 37 to 25 in bench points. The Blue Eagles also outrebounded NU with 57 against 46 caroms. Meanwhile, NU failed to capitalize on Ateneo misfortunes and still blundered with 30 turnovers.
Gelo Alolino led NU with his 19 markers and 8 boards, while Alfred Aroga who fouled early in the game netted 14 points.
The Blue Eagles will next face a ready UE Red Warriors squad. Afterwards, the winless Bulldogs will be matched with the dominant UST Growling Tigers.
