Nemesis South Korea pierces the heart anew of Gilas Pilipinas, with a heartbreaking 97-95 victory in Incheon South Korea Asian Games 2014. National Legend Jimmy “Mighty Mouse” Alapag dominated with 5 huge three point shots and 25 points but fell short of giving the needed win for the Philippine Basketball team. LA “El Tinyente” Tenorio tallied with 20 markers for the RP Five. Both Pinoy heroes failed to salvage the game with Alapag missing his last 2 treys due to exhaustion and Tenorio missing one crucial charity shot and giving-up a bad foul in the dying minutes.

Pilipinas Basketball shot 16 of 30 three points for 53 percent shooting beyond the arc, while the Koreans made 14 of 25 for 56 percent. The Koreans also edged the Filipinos in the rebounding department with RP five collaring 31 opposite SoKors 35 rebounds. Moreover, RP five was massacred in the freethrow line by shooting only 15 of 21 compared to near perfect 17 of 18 by Korea.

South Korean import Moon Taejong led a monster effort for Korea with 38 markers. Moon shot a massive 7 of 8 three point bombs. Cho Sung Min, the dirty player slash shooter of South Korea contributed 17 points.

“The entire responsibility falls on my shoulders. I want to apologize to our people,” stated Coach Chot Reyes. Reyes failed to call needed timeouts to stop the Korean uprising in the third quarter, and also during the breakaway fourth quarter. Reyes only called the much needed timeout when Korea had taken the lead from the Pinoys 84-82. Such feat was reminiscent of Busan blunders in 2002. The Philippine team will now have to end their Asiad run against the lowly Kazakhstan.

In the first half, Jimmy Alapag had 5 of 7 treys with Gilas getting 58% three point shooting with 11 0f 19 howitzers. Moon Taejong of Korea had 3 of 4 treys for the East Asian power.
