Gilas Pilipinas falls anew to scrappy Iceland, 76-86 in the Four Nations Cup 2015 Tallinn Estonia. The Nordic dribblers imposed their might against the Philippine Basketball Team, but the Filipinos crept back to snatch the lead in the 3rd canto. Defensive lapses and unnecessary turnovers in the 4th pulled RP Five to its’ third consecutive loss. Andray Blatche and Terrence Romeo powered the nationals with 22 and 17 Points apiece, but came-up short against the resilient Vikings.
Pilipinas Basketball stole the lead with 7:09 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, 47-45. The Filipino dribblers continued to surprise Iceland by uncorking an unanswered 9-0 blast. Romeo spearheaded that offensive barrage with 10 straight points, part of his 17 Points haul. However, lackluster defense and mounting turnovers stopped any further uprisings of the Pinoys as Iceland escaped hell and wound-up giving RP Five it’s third consecutive loss in three games.
There were few lead changes throughout the second half, but Iceland seized their advantage by shooting more total treys, 9 of 32 against 7 of 27 by the Filipinos. The Nordics also dished better with 16 compared to RP team’s 11. On the other hand, RP quintet stole the ball 12 times against 9 of Iceland, and rebounded 32 caroms opposite 33 by the Vikings.
Andray Blatche who was celebrating his birthday today, dropped majority of the points for the embattled Gilas dribblers and hauled 5 Boards in addition. Calvin “The Beast” Abueva did not suit-up for RP Team probably due to the hard fall he sustained in the prior game.
