FIBA Asia 2015 News: Gilas Pilipinas Basketball bags Silver as China wins Gold, 78-67, with the help of referrees in the Finals of FIBA Asia 2015 in Changsha, China. Andray Blatche topscored for the losing cause of Pilipinas with 17 markers. Calvin The Beast Abueva and Terrence Romeo added 9 markers, while Jayson The Blur Castro chipped-in 8 baskets. China backcourt captain Guo Ailun meanwhile, led Team Dragon with 19 points.
Only making 8 points in the finals, Jayson “The Blur” Castro won the FIBA Asia Mythical Five award, as the Philippine Basketball Team bagged Silver medal and will play for the Olympic Basketball Qualifying Tournaments.
The finals game was close for most of the time, with Philippines leading in the first quarter until 4:23 in the first when China tasted the lead.
RP Five was saddled with early foul troubles throughout the game as Referees kept on calling bum, questionable and panthom calls in favor of China. RP dribblers were stomped, kicked and elbowed but got the nasty end of every foul calls. Gilas got 28 fouls, to China’s 24. Philippines stole the ball 7 times to 1 of China, but the Chinese outrebounded them by three, 43 to 46. China got the gift freethrows from the Refs, as they shot 21 charities out of 33.
Pilipinas played with a respectable game even if the crowd and the referrees were obviously in China side. RP never trailed by more than 20 points deficit.
In the third China raced to a big lead with Blatche and Castro saddled with foul tropuble. RP got close by ten points, 50-60.
In the first canto, Philippines led 15-10, but China stole the lead at 4:09. RP used the penalty to close-in as the first quarter ended, 19-23 with a China lead.
Philippines will be waiting for the Olympic qualifying tournaments to qualify for the Rio joust. They ended their FIBA Asia 2015 campaign with a 7-2 win-loss slate.
