FIBA 3×3 News: Slovenia Kranj upsets stubborn Manila North of the Philippines, 21-17, this Friday October 16 in Pool D of 2015 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final in Abu Dhabi. Calvin “The Beast” Abueva powered the losing effort of Pilipinas with 9 baskets, while Troy Rosario and Vic Manuel hauled 4 and 3 points respectively.

Si Calvin “The Beast” Abueva ang nagtimon sa natalong Pilipinas sa kanyang 9 buslo, at pati sina Troy Rosario at Vic Manuel ay nagtala ng 4 at 3 puntos bawat isa.
Manila North played most of the game without an alternate as Karl Dehesa was disqualified from the game with 7:36 left, after figuring in a near fist-fight against a player from Kranj. Dehesa’s absence was apparent as his shooting serves as a major offensive weapon for the Filipinos.
The Slovenians broke the game wide open early, scoring 15-7, but the valiant Filipinos fought back to narrow the gap up until the final minutes.
Abueva’s three straight baskets with 4 minutes to go brought the Philippines within striking distance at 20-17. Kranj however ended the ballgame with a freethrow to finish 21-17 with still 3:17 in the game clock.
Playing in their second game, Kranj previously bowed to Team Doha of Qatar – 13-16, while this is the first game for Manila North. The Filipinos will next face Team Doha.
Kranj is rated at fifth in all the twelve teams that are fighting for the FIBA 3×3 crown, while Manila North is ranked at last spot at 12th.
Only two teams from Pool D will advance to the quarterfinal round. The three teams vying for that spot will certainly figure in highly physical ballgames.
