° Northern Consolidated Cement (NCC) led the Philippines and captured Gold in 1981. Coach Ron Jacobs brought a roster that had Ricardo Brown, Dennis Still, Jeff Moore, Willie Pearson, Frankie Lim, JB Yango, Eddie Joe Chavez, Bruce Collins, Steve Schall, Mike Santos, Michael Antoine and Dave Wear. Members of the reserves list included Itoy Esguerra, Bokyo Lauchengco, Ricky Relosa and Ed Cordero. The 1985 NCC team was not warmly accepted by the Filipinos due to the number of foreign players in the roster.
° In 1985, Ron Jacob's NCC returned with a new cast as San Miguel Beer. Powerhouse teams included Uruguay, Canada, Italy, Taiwan, Sweden and the USA. The United States was mentored by eminent Purdue coach Gene Keady. Future NBA stars Harold Pressley, Kenny Gattison, Joe Wolf and Kevin Henderson bannered the Americans. In the Jones Cup finals, Philippines finished the USA 108-100 in extra time. Naturalized player Chip Engelland, Samboy "Skywalker" Lim, Allan "Triggerman" Caidic and Jeff Moore led in Points with 43, 23, 19 and 13 respectively. Other members of the famed roster included Franz Pumaren, Hector Calma, Dennis Still, Yves Dignadice and Tonichi Yturri.
° One of the most popular National Team ever assembled by the Filipinos was the Philippine Centennial Team (PBA backed) under Coach Tim Cone. The Centennial Team demolished Chinese Taipei NT (Taiwan), 82-72 in the championship. Kenneth "Captain Marbel" Duremdes copped the MVP award. The PBA roster was composed of legends Marlou Aquino, Johnny Abarrientos, Vergel Meneses, Allan Caidic, Alvin Patrimonio, Zandro Limpot, Dennis Espino, Olsen Racela, Jeffrey Cariaso and Jojo Lastimosa. Also included were giants EJ Feihl and Andy Seigle.
° The Smart Gilas team led by Coach Chot Reyes retook the Gold in 2012 Jones Cup. The Philippines again beat a USA team, 76-75 for the championship. LA Tenorio aka "El Tinyente" was awarded the MVP during the festivities. The roster was made-up of Ranidel De Ocampo, Larry Fonacier, Sonny Thoss, Mac Baracael, Jeff Chan, Gabe Norwood, Rico Villanueva, Gary David, Jay-R Reyes, and Sol Mercado and naturalized Marcus Douthit. Amateur standouts included Garvo Lanete and upcoming Fil-Am phenom Matt Ganuelas Rosser.
° Under Coach Chot Reyes, SMC Team Pilipinas won Bronze in 2005 and 2007 Jones Cup. On the other hand, Serbian think-tank Rajko Toroman, also steered Smart Gilas Pilipinas to Bronze in 2011.
° In 1999 Jones Cup, Taiwan and Philippines (represented by MBA team Iloilo Voltz) figured into an ugly brawl. Due to non-calls and ineffectiveness of the referees, the game turned physical. The rough housing style of Iloilo Voltz and gung-ho Joey Mente sparked an open-court riot. Even Taiwanese fans drew dirt by throwing bottles to the Filipino players, which the latter threw back. The uneventful game was ended abruptly and several players and fans were rushed to the hospital.
° In 2015, Gilas Pilinas team won the first ever Silver of RP Five in Jones Cup. Jayson Castro bagged the Best Point Guard award as part of Best Five players of the 2015 Jones Cup edition. Terrence Romeo could have won also an award if not for the injury he sustained in the tournament. Romeo wowed the crowds of Taiwan so much that he grabbed the local Taiwanese media attention during the games. Romeo posterized tall and giant opposition with the likes of Hamed Haddadi, Quincy Davis and Ha Seung Jin. Gilas 3.0 was mentored by coach Tab Baldwin. Other players in the team included Calvin Abueva, Asi Taulava, Gary David, Moala Tautuaa, JC Intal, Jimmy Alapag, Sonny Thoss, Troy Rosario, Marc Pingris, Aldrech Ramos, Ranidel De Ocampo, Matt Ganuelas Rosser, Gabe Norwood and Dondon Hontiveros Naturalized center Andray Blatche did not play a single game due to a family emergency.
