Rookie of the Year Record History
In 1989, Formula Shell made a wise Draft pick by choosing UP Diliman standout and RP Youth cager Benjie "Tower of Power" Paras. Paras went on to mark his name in PBA history books by winning the first and only Rookie of the Year and MVP award in the same year.
Greg Slaughter remains as the tallest PBA player to be named Rookie of the Year in PBA history.
San Miguel was fortunate enough to land two (2) Dannys in the PBA draft of 1998 and the Fil-Am Direct Hire in 1999. Danny Ildefonso and Danny Seigle went on not only to win respective Rookie of the Year trophies but also several personal awards and multitude of PBA Championship titles for the brewery franchise.
Marlou "SkyScraper" Aquino not only won the PBA Rookie of the Year in 1996, but also copped the All Defensive Team, Mythical Five and Defensve Player of the Year award.
Ricardo "Quick Fox" Brown was the first PBA player Rookie of the Year awardee from a college abroad. Brown came from Pepperdine University in the United States. He was followed the next year by Willie Pearson who hailed from Chaminade USA.
