Philippine Basketball Team • Andray Blatche

Gilas Pilipinas Basketball News: Naturalized center Andray Blatche’s monster slam brought down the rim and the rest of the backboard goal in Day Two of the Philippine Basketball Team practice at The Hoopsdome in Cebu this Tuesday. The power of the two handed dunk and Blatche’s sheer weight made a Shaq dejavu as the goal support collapsed in the heat of Gilas practice routine.

After catching the ball and ending-up in a picturesque jam, Blatche momentarily hung on the rim and the goal gave way. The incident was witnessed by Jay Panerio of Spin.ph as posted on Twitter.

Several Gilas players including the NBA veteran were in the direction of the collapsed goal which fortunately did not cause any undue harm to the cagers.

After a temporary fix, the goal support collapsed a second time after Calvin Abueva’s slam and the court technicians were fast to remedy the issue. Observers believed it might have been a mechanical problem since it was obvious that Abueva is far less lighter than Blatche.

Andray is wasting no time to get back in perfect shape and return to the supreme force that he was back in Sevilla Spain FIBA Worlds.

The Pilipinas Basketball dribblers are currently training in seclusion in Cebu to maximize the time for drills, avoid the media and evade the heavy Metro Manila traffic. The week-long preparation will be the last time that Gilas 3.0 will be scrimmaging in Philippine soil before embarking for Changsha FIBA Asia 2015 wars.
