Gilas Pilipinas escapes danger by a hair to beat New Zealand Wellington Saints, 92-88, in William Jones Cup 2015 in Taipei Taiwan. Dondon “Cebuano Hotshot” Hontiveros exploded with dagger treys to lift Pilipinas with 21 big Points in overtime. Jayson “The Blur” Castro started the Filipino uprising in the third quarter to snatch the lead with his monster 22 Points. Ageless Asi “The Rock” Taulava defended the paint and contributed 12 Points and 6 Rebounds.

Sumabog si “Cebuano Hotshot” Dondon Hontiveros sa sunud-sunod na tres ika-apat na yugto ng laban gamit ang 11 Puntos na bahagi ng kabuuang 21. With a wild seesaw battle of seven deadlocks, the Philippines side prevailed over a game Kiwi squad led by Bryan Davis, Eric Devendorf and Ray Turner. Calvin The Beast Abueva hustled well for RP squad, ending-up with 11 Points and 10 Boards. RP Team outrebounded the Saints with 42 to 37 Rebounds 19 Assists to 10 of the opposing team. Philippines made 41% in threepoint territory with 11 treys out of 27.




In the final frame, Jayson Castro sparked the rally of RP five to finally snatch the lead from Wellington Saints.

In the third, Taulava steered Pilipinas back to only seven point deficit against New Zealand. Taulava made good work both in offense and defense.

Thoss led by 8 Points at the half for the visibly slow Filipinos. Davis led the Kiwis with 12 Points at the half. The New Zealand dribblers killed RP Five in the charity box with 85% freethrows made. The 15 total fouls of Pilipinas in the 1st half dictated the scoring as New Zealand seized the free shots. RP Five also had a dismal shooting with 35.1% fieldgoal clip and 35.7% threepoint shooting, compared to 47.8% and 42.9% of the Kiwis.

In the first quarter, RP outrebounded and outdished New Zealand with 9 Rebounds and 8 Assists to 4 and 3 of the Kiwis.
